Wax mixture of Lipsticks


Wax mixture:
           
Gloss and hardness of lipsticks are hardly depends on the characteristics and the quantity of the waxes used. So the composition of the wax mixture is of prime importance.


White beeswax:

Useful and important component of lipsticks having melting point 62-64 º C.
It is used 3-10% of the total formula.
Can binds oils and high melting point waxes.
It shrinks on cooling thus helps preparation of moulded producs.

Candelilla wax:

Has melting points of 65-69º C.
Used 5-10% of total formulation.
Smooth and glossy appearance are found when excess candelilla wax is used than bees wax.

Carnauba wax:

Increase the melting point of the bases and hardness of the lipsticks.
Should be used in small amount.
Brings attractive luster of the product.
Melting point is 80-88 º C.

Ozekerite wax:

Increase melting point of the base.
Melting point is 60-80º C.
Used 3-10%.
Excess may tend to crumble during application.

Ceresin wax:

Also called paraffin or mineral wax.
Melting point is 60-75º C.
Used about 5% to increase melting point.

Cetyl alcohol and cetostearyl alcohol:

Used in 2-3% in the lipstick for emmolient action on the lip skin.
Melting points 45-50º C and 42-45ºC respectively.
At higher concentration (>5%) give a dull appearance
